TABI and Goodwill Industries International are encouraging customers to donate their gently-worn jeans as part of a jeans trade-in promotion. Customers who participate in the promotion from Monday, August 23 to Monday, September 6 will receive $20 off a new pair of jeans when donating a used pair (or pairs) at TABI. One discount is given per donated item. The donations will be sold at Canadian Goodwill retail stores, where the revenues fund job training, employment placement and career support services for people who have a disability, lack education or job experience, or others facing challenges to finding employment.

Constellation Energy (NYSE: CEG) announced today that its subsidiary, Constellation NewEnergy, Inc., has entered into a two-year green electricity purchase agreement with Goodwill Industries International. Constellation NewEnergy will supply Goodwill Industries International’s headquarter location in Rockville, Md. with renewable energy certificates (RECs) sourced from wind renewable resources to offset 100-percent of its energy use. The effort is part of an overall initiative for Goodwill Industries International and its independent member agencies to green their buildings and stores to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards.

The Goodwill Industries International Board of Directors has elected Bill J. Kacal of Houston, TX, as its new chair, to serve a one-year term. Kacal took office during the annual Goodwill® Delegate Assembly, which was held in June in Tacoma, WA. Kacal is a certified public accountant and has been with Deloitte & Touche LLP for nearly 40 years where he is currently a senior partner. He is a member of the Deloitte & Touche Board of Directors and is currently the deputy regional managing partner for Mid America Audit. Kacal is currently the chairman of the board for Goodwill Industries® of Houston and previously served as the vice chairman for the Goodwill Industries International Board of Directors.

Charles Schwab Foundation has announced a new relationship with Goodwill Industries International, as part of the Foundation's strategic initiative to create locally tailored programs that aim to improve the financial well-being of the underserved and working poor in locations where Schwab has a significant employee presence. The first of these programs was launched in 2008 in San Francisco with Single Stop USA, followed in 2009 by a second program in Austin, Texas, with Foundation Communities. This new alliance with Goodwill® will support and help build the Good Assets Program, a program that provides comprehensive services and training to strengthen the economic stability of individuals and families. Goodwill Industries International and Prison Fellowship signed an agreement on June 16, 2010 to collaborate on job training and mentoring services for people who spent time in prison and at-risk youth, and to influence public policy initiatives. The partnership aims to help these populations make a successful return to their communities following their release, support the children of formerly incarcerated individuals and reduce the rate of criminal recidivism.

For the first time in the history of the semi-annual Bon-Ton Goodwill® Sale, which began in 1994, customers donated nearly four million pounds of clothing and textiles. The sale event was held March 10 through March 24, 2010. The donated items have an estimated value of approximately $17 million in revenues, which will support Goodwill’s job training programs, community-based services and other supportive services for individuals in communities nationwide. The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. — which operates stores under the Bon-Ton, Bergner’s, Boston Store, Carson Pirie Scott, Elder-Beerman, Herberger’s, Younkers and Parisian nameplates — received donations for Goodwill at its 267 stores. Goodwill will sell the donated items in the communities where they were collected, and the revenues will support job training for people with disabilities, those who lack education or job experience, and others facing challenges to finding employment.
