I’m emailing regarding my brother. He has a learning disability and was pushed through the school system and graduated with a “modified diploma”. We have just recently discovered that a modified diploma is not even the equivalent of a GED. He has decided that he would like to pursue other career options, and I am curious if Goodwill industries offers assistance in GED programs or any other schooling (He has expressed interest in a truck driving school that’s down the road from us) for people with learning disabilities?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much,
Jessica

Anna – I believe you are referring to a program offered by Goodwill Industries, Knoxville.
Read more about that program and the voucher offers: http://www.gwiktn.org/programs/Job/CNA/default.htm

You should contact your local Goodwill headquarters to find out about job training programs offered in your area. You can find their information using our locator at http://locator.goodwill.org
We will also be launching a new virtual online career web site soon called Good Prospects. This site will feature information on careers in phlebotomy. Stay tuned to this site for an announcement in the next few weeks.

I checked with some of our other staff members, and they recommended you take a look at http://www.acenet.edu/AM/Template.cfm?Section=GED_TS to learn more about GED services. Please note that while you can access online training and practice tests, you cannot take the GED online — it must be taken in person at an approved testing facility.
You will also need to look at the specific requirements for your state, so be sure to check out your state’s department of education web site for more information and resources.

I need to get either my GED or High School Diploma, but I don’t have transportation at this time. I need to take classes from home. Could you help me find some schools that are legit and affordable?
Thank you,
God Bless.

Each of our 165 Goodwill agencies in the US and Canada operate independently and set their own hiring and application policies. You will need to contact the headquarters nearest you to find out about how to apply for jobs in your area. Use our locator at http://locator.goodwill.org to find the name and contact information for the headquarters responsible for your geographic territory.
